Next course starting July 23rd 


Delivered in partnership with Otago Polytechnic, FarmHand is a full-time 17 week programme which connects young people with permanent work or further education through hands-on experience with community projects, experiences in nature, and work placements.

  • Work with conservation projects such as Orokonui Sanctuary, Yellow Eyed Penguin Trust, Wenita Forest, and Sinclair Wetlands

  • Work placements for 1 day a week for 10 weeks on farms and at the Botanic Gardens

  • 3 days working and exploring on Quarantine Island

  • 3 days in the Catlins learning bush survival skills

  • Learn to grow food and look after a market garden at our outdoor classroom, Kowhai Grove

  • Conquer the confidence course at Berwick

  • Get your hands dirty with carpentry and construction projects

FarmHand is for 16-25 year olds and is completely free. You may be eligible for a Student Living Costs Loan through StudyLink throughout the course.
